Hypocrisy over
grants fiasco

The fundamentalist Christian church in Sydney, Hillsong, is in the news again, but not because of high-profile visitors like Peter Costello and John Howard.

No, it's more sinister. This church, which is tax exempt, has been accused of rorting the local Aboriginal community and the Federal Government. It allegedly applied for and received Aboriginal Development Grants without reference to the Aboriginal group it claimed to be supporting, and spent most of the money ($315,000) on its own administration and staffing costs, with only a trickle reaching Aborigines.

If these were Aboriginal people doing this with taxpayers' money they would be in jail by now.
